Description
This little bowl is made from a River Birch tree. This species is native to North America and is known for its peeling bark that sometimes resembles leather. Many of my pieces made of this wood, I will leave the bark in place. Others, like this one, I let the beautiful white wood speak for itself. This piece was cut from my yard here in Laurel, MS.
This wood cuts easily and finishes smooth. It makes a beautiful bowl. This piece is 8” diameter and 3-1/2” high. A bouquet of dried or artificial flowers could make this a centerpiece for any dining table.
This bowl, like most of my pieces, is sanded to a smooth (320 grit) finish then sealed with a clear wood sealer, sanded again with an even smoother finish (400 grit). A hand rubbed, high gloss wax finish is then applied and buffed to a gloss that is smooth to the touch and smooth to the eye.
(Not recommended for use with food or extended contact with water.)
