The Magic of Resin: Behind the Scenes at Mushroom Lady Co
Author: Mushroom Lady Co

At Mushroom Lady Co, we believe that a little glitter and a lot of creativity can go a long way. Our vibrantly colored resin mushroom keychains are more than just cute accessories — each one is a miniature work of art, lovingly handcrafted with care, sparkle, and a touch of forest magic.

But have you ever wondered how we create these shimmering little treasures? Let's take you behind the scenes into our resin-making process, where art, science, and safety come together in perfect harmony.

🍄 Mixing the Magic: How We Make Our Resin Mushrooms Our process begins with a two-part epoxy resin — one part resin and one part hardener. Once these two components are mixed in the proper ratio, a chemical reaction begins that transforms the liquid into a durable, glass-like solid. Timing and precision are key here, as the clock starts ticking the moment they're combined.

Next, we mix in our colors and glitters. This is where the fun begins! We use a variety of vibrant dyes, mica powders, and chunky, holographic glitters that shimmer beautifully when they catch the light — like sunlight filtering through a forest canopy. Each batch is different, and we love experimenting with new color combinations. Sometimes it's a deep galaxy purple with silver stars, other times a neon rainbow swirl that seems to dance when the keychain moves.

Once our mixture is just right, we carefully pour the resin into custom silicone mushroom molds. We work slowly and intentionally, minimizing bubbles and ensuring each mold is filled to perfection. After that, it's time to wait. Curing can take up to 24-48 hours, depending on the temperature and humidity — resin art is as much about patience as it is about creativity.

No Two Mushrooms Are the Same One of the things we love most about working with resin is how unique every single piece turns out. Even when using the same mold or glitter mix, slight variations in how the resin flows or settles create subtle differences. That means no two mushroom keychains are ever exactly alike — each one is a little gem with its own personality.

🧤 Safety First: Our Resin Studio Setup While resin is a fantastic medium to work with, it's important to respect it. That's why we've dedicated a specific resin room in our garage to our crafting. It's well-ventilated and kept clean and organized to minimize any risks.
Every time we mix and pour, we wear PPE — including a proper respirator mask with organic vapor cartridges and nitrile gloves — to protect against fumes and skin contact. Safety is part of the art, and it ensures we can keep creating beautiful things while staying healthy.

🌈 Want to Try Resin Yourself? Here's How to Start! Resin crafting is a fun and rewarding hobby that opens up a world of creative possibilities. From jewelry and keychains to coasters, trays, bookmarks, and even wall art — the only limit is your imagination.

If you're thinking about diving into resin art, here are a few tips to get started:

Start small: Try a beginner kit that includes resin, molds, and basic pigments.

Work safely: Always craft in a well-ventilated area, and wear gloves and a respirator.

Experiment: Play with colors, textures, and glitter to discover your style.
Be patient: Resin takes time to cure — don't rush it!

Have fun: Mistakes happen, and sometimes they lead to the best creations.

At Mushroom Lady Co, we're proud to bring a little sparkle into the world, one mushroom at a time. Each keychain we create is a celebration of handmade artistry, nature-inspired whimsy, and the joy of crafting. Whether you're a resin enthusiast or just someone who loves a bit of glitter in your life, we hope our creations brighten your day.
